The Sway's Belinda Pasqua was featured last week on NBC's Thread NY

“The idea for the The Sway came a few months later, when I realized I wanted to design in a sustainable way and use reclaimed and recycled materials,” explains the designer, whose collection of tough leather biker jackets and durable handbags are fashioned entirely from salvaged leathers.


This may or may not appeal to vegetarians but it will appeal to eco conscious and environmentally friendly people ( I hope that includes all of us by now). Just think of all the possibilities for reusing old leather from motorcycles and old horse saddles. Belinda’s genius idea is also a very fashionable one. Check out my favorite of her A/W 2012 leather jackets.

 ”One of my jackets, the ‘Bondi Biker,’ has over 1,000 metal studs,” she boasts.

Fashion Indie did a feature last Friday on The Sway’s Leather handbags.  The Sway is creating bags and motorcycle jackets made entirely from high quality recycled leather. The result is supple skins made sustainably Last year the “Marlo” bag won an Independent Designer Handbag Award for “Best Green Handbag.” The leather is recycled but is just as lush as brand new leather. You can buy the “Marlo” bag and other Sway leather handbags here.

Fashion me Green featured The Sway’s “Sabine” upcycled leather bag in their travel video!

We agree that a large leather bag is the best way to look chic without trying. You can fit your iPad, makeup and Xanax in this bag. 

Upcycled leather is great for the environment and for animals. A decent number of fashion brands with products using upcycled leather are now available making it practically unnecessary to buy new leather goods.  

Just look at this leather jacket from The Sway:

You can’t tell us you’d be compromising your style to go “green”.

Now, to plan that trip to Chile this December ….
